The size of the American continent, in combination with the global political energy debate, offer great potential for the distribution of combined heat and power plants for decentralized power supply. To partake in this development from an early stage, 2G Energy AG has invested in the U.S. based 2G Cenergy Inc., which is located in Orange Park, Florida, since 2009. In January 2012, the initial 25% interest in 2G Cenergy was increased to 49%. In contrast to the European markets where demand is managed in part by feed-in rates, incentives for buying the 2G modules in the U.S. vary. Biogas plant operators, called “waste-treatment plants” here, achieve most of their revenues through organic waste from supermarkets or restaurants, which can then be converted to produce electricity and heat with the use of high efficient 2G technology.
