2G Drives GmbH, an in-house research and development department, was founded in the spring of 2010 and joined the 2G group as an independent subsidiary. The goal of this subsidiary is to optimize combustion engines with outputs between 50 kW and 500 kW, and to develop and build these engines so they may be used as technological centerpiece of 2G Energietechnik GmbH CHP modules. Additionally, the peripheral high-tech components that ensure a highly efficient operation of the modules will be newly or further developed by 2G Drives GmbH.

Due to the close working relationship with internationally recognized specialists and development collaborations with universities and research institutes (TU Graz, FVT), the flow of experience and new insights into the development, secure a sustainable reproducibility of the technology. In particular, the long-term partnership with the Austrian gas engine expert Dr. Günther Herdin (also 10% shareholder of the 2G Drives GmbH) provides for continuous development boosts and rapid spread of the gas engine “know-how” amongst our development team in Heek.

Meanwhile, partly due to the success of the 2G Drives GmbH, the 2G group is now recognized as a technology leader in the industry, that represents a brilliant market role especially for the ​​gas engines ranging from 50 to 450 kW. As such, 2G was the first supplier to have successfully increased the electrical efficiency of 190 kW for biogas CHP plants by 2.2% on the German market. This unique technology has originally been introduced to the German market in 2009 under the name "agenitor 206". In the meantime the 2G engine technology, with the expansion of the agenitor series and the introduction of the filius and avus series, has earned global recognition.

Over the long run due to developing and building most 2G products in house and expanding on the product line, 2G’s market leading role should further be enhanced. The gain in terms of efficiency and the reduction of expenses for maintenance and repair will continue to strengthen the world's leading technology status in the mentioned performance area.

Our biggest highlight yet has been the introduction of our first, self-developed gas engine being built inside the agenitor series. This added to the previously described increase in efficiency when introduced in late 2011. The agenitor 406, with 250 kW of electrical power (series production in 2013) and 42.5% electrical efficiency, will represent yet another milestone in the gas engine technology for this power range
