New at 2G: agenitor 06.11.2009
At 2009's AGRITECHNICA, 2G Bio-Energietechnik AG has been the first provider in the German market to introduce a biogas powered, output-optimised combined heat and power (CHP) facility with a nominal electrical output of 220 kW. Due to the thermodynamic optimisation of the motors, we have succeeded in increasing the degree of electrical efficiency by 2.2% to 40.6 %. After extensive tests, this has now been confirmed by a renowned, independent institute.
“But the work won’t stop there,” explained Christian Grotholt, Chairman of the Management Board. “Simulations on V12 motors with thermodynamic motor optimisation and modified turbo charging show that degrees of electrical efficiency of more than 42% can be attained.”
The new development will be launched on the market under the brand name “agenitor”. The higher degree of efficiency will be attained with traditional natural gas powered systems as well as with biogas systems with CO2 components.
“agenitor” is the first market-ready outcome of a development project undertaken as part of the “Central Innovation Program for SMEs” development programme sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, that will continue until the beginning of 2011. In addition to 2G and other experts from the mechanical engineering and plant engineering sectors, the Münster University of Applied Sciences and the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics from Graz, Austria, are also involved in the project. Within the framework of the first completed development phase, the combustion engine, the gas mixer and regulation of the gas composition have all been optimised.
Currently, the project team are concentrating their efforts on optimising gas motors with higher outputs. “At the end of the day, the increase in the degree of efficiency will result in more money in the pockets of the operators of biogas systems,” explained Grotholt.
