Combined heat and power plants offer measurable benefits in all applications where heat and electricity are needed continuously: up to 70 % lower energy costs, neary 50 % lower CO2 emissions, greater independence from the mood swings of the energy market and additional revenues from feeding surplus energy into the network.
Through combined heat and power, the overall efficiency of energy generation as compared to the conventional combination of local heating and centralized power plants is increased noticeably, by which the plants produce electrical power and heat simultaneously on location. The overall efficiency of the power generation during this process lies between 25 and 50%, dependent upon the size of the plant. Through the local utilisation of the waste heat, the primary energy exerted is used up to more than 90%. CHP plants can therefore save up to 40% primary energy and 60% of CO2 emissions.
